דו"ח זה הוא שלב ראשון במחקר כולל שכותרתו "מגמת השינוי האקלימי בערבה - היבטים אקלימיים והשלכות הידרולוגיות ואקולוגיות". המחקר הכולל הבוחן תנודה אקלימית בערבה שעל פי תצפיות ראשונות מתרחשת מראשית שנות ה-90 וכוללת פחיתה משמעותית בכמות הגשם, שינויים בממוצע הטמפרטורה החודשית ושינויים בכיווני הרוחות ועוצמתן

Launching an ILTER station in Wadi Araba (Arava Valley)

On June 8th this year, a kick-off meeting is scheduled in Aqaba, where Jordanian and Israeli scientists will meet with experienced LTER scientists and administrators from USA and Europe to determine the form and practice of the proposed local LTER effort. This initiative to establish a new long-term ecological study gels while regional and global occurrences demand immediate answers regarding local environmental and sociological interactions.

Long term ecological education

The Long-Term-Ecological-Research (LTER) is a collaborative effort that tries to deal with an inherent fault of the conventional ecological research pursued within academic institutions. The Man and Environment in the Desert project is a cooperation between the Dead-Sea and Arava Science Center and Ramon Science Center to bridge the gap between the academic research and the educational system in Israel, using the LTER template.
